Quick Guide for Router Installation

This guide specifically refers to Teltonika and Advantech routers, which have been preconfigured by Wireless Logic mdex, for example with an 'mdex Standard Configuration' (Basic Configuration) or an 'individual configuration' (Advanced Configuration). However, with an “individual configuration” (Advanced Configuration), certain deviations from the following documentation may occur.

Contents:
1. Router pre-configuration
2. Activate SIM Card
3. Commissioning the Router
4. Adjust Configuration
4. Manufacturer Instructions
5. Problems/Troubleshooting

1. Router pre-configuration

This chapter applies only to routers preconfigured by Wireless Logic mdex, such as with an 'mdex Standard Configuration' (Basic) or an 'individual configuration' (Advanced).

The mdex router pre-configuration differs from the router factory settings!
Resetting the router to factory settings removes all configurations and requires manual setup. We recommend backing up the current configuration upon receipt; see Backup and Restore the Router Configuration. This backup allows you to easily restore the router to its original state if needed.

Please see the attached configuration sheet for the current router pre-configuration example:

Individual adjustments can be made independently according to chapter 4. Adjust Configuration.

2. Activate SIM Card

If the router is to be operated with a Wireless Logic or mdex SIM card, it must be activated before use. The activation procedure depends on whether the SIM card is managed in SIMPro or mCOP.

The ICCID of the SIM card used in the router, as well as the indication of which portal (SIMPro or mCOP) it is managed in, can be found on the SIM label or the router's configuration sheet. See example:

3. Commissioning the Router

To commission the router, follow the steps below. You can view further details via the links.

  1. Insert the SIM card into the SIM slot of the router.
(Only required if the router was delivered without a SIM card.)

  2. Configure APN settings in the router
(Only required if the router was not preconfigured for the SIM card.)

  3. Connecting Mobile Antennas
    • For Teltonika 4G routers, the socket [Mobile MAIN] is for the main antenna and [Mobile AUX] is optional to increase download speed. When connecting only one antenna, ensure it is connected to the correct antenna socket.
    • For Advantech 4G routers, the socket [ANT] is for the main antenna and [DIV] is optional to increase download speed.
    • For 5G routers, it is necessary to connect 5G-capable antennas to all 4 antenna sockets to fully utilise the advantages of 5G technology and ensure a reliable and stable connection.

  4. Power supply of the router
    • Use the supplied power adapter.
    • Especially when using an external power supply, please refer to the article Power supply of the router.

  5. Connect devices to the router
    • Teltonika router: Devices are to be connected to the [LAN] port(s). The [WAN] port is only available if it has been configured accordingly as LAN.
    • Advantech router: The [ETH0] port standard for connecting devices. The [ETH1] port can also be used if both ETH ports have been configured as a bridge.

4. Adjust Configuration

Router configuration adjustments can be made independently. Below you will find helpful information on this:

5. Problems/Troubleshooting

In the event of malfunctions of the router, first check whether the router has been properly commissioned, the antenna is correctly connected, and the router is located in an area with sufficient cellular reception quality. See also Cellular signal strength & quality (Router).

Further tips can be found under Wireless Logic Help Centre → Router → Problems, for example:

For technical support, the router's troubleshoot file (log file) is helpful, see How can the log file be downloaded from the router?
