In order to access the device connected to the router via the reachable IP address of the SIM card, it is necessary to configure the appropriate port forwarding on the router.
Depending on the configuration, there may be forwarding of all ports, specific port forwarding, or no port forwarding set up by factory default.
For routers supplied by Wireless Logic mdex, you can find the current status on the accompanying configuration sheet.
Teltonika Router
Forwarding All Ports and Protocols as "DMZ"
Forwarding all incoming ports & protocols is set up under Network -> Firewall -> DMZ. All incoming data packets that are not yet edit in the port forwarding table will be forwarded to the device set here Host IP.
- Especially when using a static public IP address, it is necessary for the device to be protected by a firewall. Higher security can be achieved if the DMZ is disabled and instead, custom port forwarding is set up only for the required ports.
- When the DMZ function is activated, additional port forwards with the names dmz_http, dmz_https, dmz_snmp, dmz_ssh and dmz_dhcp will be added to ensure remote access and maintain the functionality of the router. These rules must not be deleted, as otherwise, remote access to the router may be lost or malfunctions may occur.
Custom Forwarding of specific Ports
In the section Network -> Firewall -> Port Forwards, a port forwarding for the required port to connected devices can be added under 'Add new instance' with 'Add'. This is particularly recommended if multiple connected devices are to be accessed via different ports over the SIM card or, for security reasons, only the necessary ports of a device should be accessible.
| Name | Name of the forwarding. |
| External Port | The incoming port for remote access to the desired device must be set individually and must not be used for multiple port forwards. |
| Internal IP address | IP address of the device. |
| Internal port | Internal port for remote access to the device. If the "no rewrite" option is selected, the "External Port" will apply. |
- The LAN IP address of the router must be configured as "Default Gateway" on the device so that the device can respond to remote queries.
- If the router's DHCP server assigns multiple IP addresses and the device obtains its IP address automatically, it must be ensured that the device always receives the same IP address for which the port forwarding has been set up.
