To access the device connected to the router via the reachable IP address of the SIM card, it is necessary to configure the appropriate port forwarding in the router.
Depending on the pre-configuration, there may either be forwarding of all ports and protocols, a specific port forwarding set up, or, according to the factory settings, no port forwarding configured yet.
For routers delivered by Wireless Logic mdex, you will find the current status on the enclosed configuration sheet.

Teltonika Router
Forwarding of all ports and protocols (as "DMZ")
The forwarding of all incoming ports & protocols is set up under Network -> Firewall -> DMZ. All incoming data packets that are not recorded in the port forwarding table are forwarded to the device set here as Host IP.
- Especially when using a public IP address, it is necessary that the device is protected by a firewall. Higher security can be achieved if the DMZ is deactivated and instead an Individual forwarding of specific ports is set up only for the required ports.
- When the DMZ function is activated, additional port forwarding rules with the names dmz_http, dmz_https, dmz_snmp, dmz_ssh and dmz_dhcp will be added to ensure remote access continues to be possible and to maintain the functionality of the router. These rules must not be deleted, as otherwise remote access to the router may be lost or malfunctions may occur.
Individual forwarding of specific ports
In the section Network -> Firewall -> Port Forwards, a port forwarding for the required port to connected devices can be added under 'Add new instance' with 'Add'. This is especially recommended if multiple devices are connected via the SIM card using different ports or, for security reasons, only the required ports of a device should be accessible.
| Name | Name of the forwarding. |
| External Port | The incoming port for remote access to the desired device must be set individually and must not be used for multiple port forwardings. |
| Internal IP address | IP address of the device. |
| Internal port | Internal port for remote access to the device. If the "no rewrite" option is selected, the "External Port" applies. |
- The LAN IP address of the router must be configured as the "default gateway" in the device so that the device can respond to remote queries.
- If the router's DHCP server assigns multiple IP addresses and the device obtains its IP address automatically, it must be ensured that the device always receives the same IP address for which the port forwarding was set up.
Advantech Router
Forwarding of all ports and protocols
The forwarding of all incoming ports & protocols can be set under Configuration -> NAT -> IPv4 at Send all remaining incoming packets to default server. All incoming data packets that are not recorded in the port forwarding table are forwarded to the device set here as of the configured Default Server IP Address, e.g. 192.168.1.100.
- Especially when using a public IP address, it is necessary that the device is protected by a firewall. Higher security can be achieved if this option is deactivated and instead an Individual forwarding of specific ports is set up only for the required ports.
Individual forwarding of specific ports
Under Configuration -> NAT -> IPv4 a port forwarding for the required port to connected devices can be set up. This is especially recommended if multiple devices are connected via the SIM card using different ports or, for security reasons, only the required ports of a device should be accessible.
| Public Port(s) | Incoming ports (e.g. 445) or port ranges (e.g. 445-450) |
| Private Port(s) | Local port or port ranges on the device. |
| Type | Select the protocol TCP or UDP. (For remote access to web servers, the TCP protocol is required.) |
| Server IP Address | IP address of the respective device |
| Description | Optional description of this forwarding. |
This is done either under Ethernet -> ETH0/ETH1 at Enable static DHCP leases. Alternatively, you can also set fixed IP addresses (including default gateway!) in the devices.
