Before you start
You will need:
- The Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Number (MSISDN) of each SIM you want a rule to apply to. This can be in a CSV.
- Confirmation that your SIMs are supported (see Caps & Alerts - Supported MNOs)
Permissions required
You must have permission to manage Caps & Alerts rules. If you cannot create a rule, contact your administrator. The roles you need are "Role Cap" and "Role Alert".
Create a new rule
- Go to the Caps & Alerts menu
- Click New rule
- Enter a name for the rule
- Set the usage threshold
- Choose the action:
- Alert (email notification)
- Cap (restrict SIM usage and send a notification of cap being applied)
- Select the SIMs (using MSISDNs)
- Click Save
What each setting means
Threshold
The data usage level that triggers the rule. You can set this in KB, MB or GB
Alert
Sends an email when the threshold is reached.
Cap
Restricts the SIM once the threshold is reached. Further, also sends an alert when the cap is applied.
Manage existing rules
From the Caps & Alerts page, you can:
- View all rules
- Edit a rule
- Delete a rule
If you remove a SIM from a rule that applied a cap, the cap will be lifted.
What happens after you create a rule
- The rule applies immediately – if any affected SIM has already breached the threshold then an alert will be sent and (if appropriate), a cap will be applied the next time that SIM consumes data
- Each SIM is monitored individually
- You will receive separate notifications for each SIM each time it breaches a threshold
Set alert recipients
To receive notifications:
- Go to Settings
- Add the relevant email recipients
Make sure the correct people are included so alerts can be acted on quickly.
Note: The alert recipients list is global, all recipients will receive all triggered alerts for every rule.
Note: If you do not set up any alert recipients specifically, all alerts will go to the email address associated with the user who creates the first rule.
