Caps & Alerts FAQs

Which SIMs are supported?

Caps & Alerts only work with selected networks and APNs. See the list of supported SIMs and networks - Caps & Alerts - Supported MNOs.

Can I create multiple rules for the same SIM?

Yes. You can include the same MSISDN in multiple rules.

Why are rules based on MSISDN?

Usage is tracked against the MSISDN, making it the most reliable identifier. An ICCID can be associated with multiple MSISDNs.

What happens if many SIMs reach a threshold at the same time?

You will receive one email per SIM. This may result in a high volume of emails.

Do I need a separate alert for caps?

No. When a cap is applied, an alert is automatically sent.

How quickly are alerts and caps applied?

This depends on the network, many networks trigger alerts within five minutes; some may take longer, but usually within one hour.
While a cap may be applied quite quickly it may still not prevent further data usage until the current session has ended. This is because a cap prevents new data sessions, SMS messages and voice calls from being created, it does not end an existing data session.
Wireless Logic accepts no responsibility for additional charges incurred for SIMs that breach their data limit due to a session not ending when a cap has been automatically applied.

Will I always avoid overage charges?

Not always. The SIM may continue using data until the current session ends.

Can I create or edit rules using an API?

No. This feature is not currently available via API.

What happens to existing capping solutions?

Existing solutions will continue to work. They may be replaced in the future.

What happens if I create a rule for unsupported SIMs?

When you save a rule, caps & alerts automatically checks that the SIMs you have specified are eligible - that they belong to your account and that they are on a supported MNO/APN. If there are any SIMs that are ineligible then a message will be shown explaining the cause of the problem.
