This article will guide you through using the SIM location feature to help you effectively manage and locate your SIM cards. We offer two types of SIM location services: Uploaded Location and Network-Derived Location.
Types of SIM Location Services
1. Uploaded Location
The Uploaded Location feature allows you to manually set your SIM latitude and longitude coordinates. This service is ideal for devices that are stationary or not expected to move frequently.
How to Upload a Location:
- Navigate to the Uploads Page on SIMPro.
- Select the upload type SIM Locations (Lat & Long).
- Upload a file containing a list of SIMs with their corresponding coordinates.
This method ensures you have an exact location for each SIM, making it perfect for static devices.
2. Network-Derived Location
The Network-Derived Location feature provides a live, approximate location of your SIM cards based on the cell tower they are connected to. This service is best suited for devices that are mobile or frequently changing locations.
The location displayed is the general area around the connected cell tower, giving you an idea of where the SIM is currently located but not an exact pinpoint location.
Note that a Network is not guaranteed to report the SIM location. Occasionally, a Network may not report it. Also, if a SIM is roaming, it is up to the roamed-to network as to whether they report the SIM's location.
Viewing SIM Locations
We offer several ways to view the location of your SIM cards:
Single SIM Location
From the Subscription Details Page, you can click the Get Location button to view both types of location data for an individual SIM. This allows you to view and compare the manually uploaded coordinates with the network-derived location.
Multiple SIM Locations
On the Subscriptions List Page, you can select up to 20 SIMs and click the Show Location button to view their uploaded locations. This is particularly useful for managing a large number of stationary SIMs and ensuring they are all correctly placed. Note that you can’t see the Network-derived locations on this page.
To help you see the SIMs that have uploaded locations to view on the map, you can add the Uploaded Lat/Long column to the table and see which SIMs have a lat/long coordinate set. You can add this column by adding or editing a custom tab and selecting the Uploaded Lat/Long column.
