SIM refreshes

What is a SIM refresh?

A SIM refresh, also known as a cancel location, is an initial action used to improve connectivity, such as when network degradation is observed. When a 'refresh' is performed, the MNO severs the device's current connection to the network. The device should detect this absence of network connectivity, then perform the necessary steps to carry out a fresh network scan, and re-connect to the network. This allows the device to gain a fresh connection, which may be to a different cell tower, or in the case of roaming SIMs, an alternative network, with improved performance.

It is important to remember that a SIM refresh only terminates the current connection, it is the responsibility of the device to reattach.

Note: A successful SIM refresh might take 24 hours to complete.

How can I request a SIM refresh?

  1. Log in to SIMPro and go to your Subscriptions page.
  2. Select the SIM(s) you want to refresh and click SIM refresh:

  3. You can add an optional customer reference and notes.
  4. You can choose whether you want to request Send SMS by ticking the box.
  5. Tick the T&Cs box and click Create request:

  6. Once your request has been received, look out for an email from SIMPro containing further details about your SIM refresh.

Another similar action to the SIM refresh, is adding and then removing a full bar. This can be slightly more effective in resolving connectivity issues when a SIM refresh is unsuccessful.
