What are usage alerts

What are usage alerts?

The usage alert function allows you to set up triggers to notify when your SIMs have hit a desired usage threshold. You can set alerts for data, voice or SMS.

Alerts are for information purposes only – SIMs will not be barred or capped automatically when a trigger is hit.

There are also dashboards available to view alerts triggered in the current month.

Note: Data alerts will only trigger if the SIMs are correctly set up to use a Wireless Logic private APN.

What types of usage alert can I set?

Usage alerts can be set at a variety of levels depending on your chosen billing model:

  • Billing Account Level: For all the SIMs on the account.
  • Tariff Level: For any SIMs assigned to a particular tariff.
  • Aggregated Tariff: For any SIMs assigned to an aggregated tariff.
  • Data Pool: For SIMs which belong within a data pool.
  • MSISDN Level: For a particular mobile number.
  • SIM Group: For  SIMs within a specific SIM group.

Managing Usage Alerts

Usage alerts can be created, edited and removed within the Account section of SIMPro. The contacts listed within the Account section (Account > Billing Account > Usage Alert Email Address) will receive the notification emails.

If you do not have access to your SIMPro Accounts section, please contact us for help: support@wirelesslogic.com.

Note: Alerts are not set automatically on tariff creation. Therefore, we recommend customers regularly check to make sure the alerts capture all the relevant information.

Thresholds

Each usage alert has two thresholds required to be set: a low and high. Once the low threshold has been hit, the usage alert email will send every day with updated usage totals.

This will stop when the usage renews on the 1st of the month.

Priority

Whilst multiple usage alerts can be set up for one SIM, there is a hierarchy in place which may override other alerts set.

The priority order is:

Priority Alert type How it works
1 Billing account Alert is triggered if any SIM on the billing account hits the specified threshold. Thresholds can be set as values only.
2 Aggregated tariff Overrides the above alert and triggers if any SIM on the specified aggregated tariff goes over the specified threshold. Thresholds can be set as values or a percentage.
3 Tariff Overrides the above alerts and triggers if any SIM on the tariff hits the specified threshold. Thresholds can be set as values only.
4 SIM group Overrides the above alerts and triggers if any SIM in the SIM group hits the specified threshold. Thresholds can be set as values only.
5 MSISDN   Overrides the above alerts and triggers if the MSISDN hits a specified threshold. Thresholds can be set as values only.

For example:
If you have a SIM Group alert set up and the SIMs within this group are also part of a tariff alert, the SIM Group has a higher priority. This is the level at which the alert will trigger.
