mCOP 2.0: Login using a 'Passkey'

The mCOP 2.0 portal also supports login with a Passkey.

Passkey login is available only in the mCOP 2.0 portal. The traditional mCOP portal requires a username, password and TOTP code.

What is a Passkey?

A passkey is a modern and particularly secure method of authentication that also makes the sign-in process more convenient and efficient. When signing in, there is no need to enter a username, password or additional TOTP code. Instead, your identity is confirmed, for example, using a biometric function such as a fingerprint or facial recognition, a device PIN or another secure unlocking method of the device being used.

This significantly simplifies and speeds up the entire sign-in process. At the same time, the level of security is increased, as passkeys cannot be entered, transmitted or stolen in the conventional manner like traditional passwords. This significantly reduces the risk of password theft, insecure or reused passwords, and phishing attacks. 

Set up a Passkey

1. Login to the mCOP 2.0 portal using your username, password and TOTP code.

2. Under your username (top left), click Security.

   

   If the profile layout “Overlay” is selected in the user settings, click the user icon in the top right and select 'Security':

   
    

3. To ensure that the passkey can be set up reliably and without the error message “Error registering your passkey”, the setup should be performed using the button in the top left, Set up Passkey (recommended).

   
    

4. Under Passwordless, set up the passkey by clicking Set up Passkey.

   
    

5. Follow the instructions for setting up the passkey in the subsequent dialogues. The dialogues and passkey methods may vary depending on the operating system and the device's specifications.

6. The passkey is added, as shown in the example for a Windows laptop:

   
    

7. The passkey setup is now complete. If required, additional passkeys can be added for other devices. 

Login using Passkeys

1. Open mCOP 2.0 using a web browser and click Login. 

    

2. Instead of entering your username and password, click 'Sign in with Passkey'. 

   
     

3. The configured passkey method is now offered for identification, for example by scanning your fingerprint. This dialogue may vary depending on the operating system and passkey method.

4. After successful authentication with the passkey, you will be securely logged in to the mCOP 2.0 portal.
