mCOP Login with 'Two-Factor Authentication' (2FA)

For security reasons, access to the 'mdex Connection Management Portal' (mCOP) is being made mandatory for all users to a multi-factor authentication (MFA). Access will henceforth only be possible using the 'Two-Factor Authentication' method by entering a one-time password (TOTP / One-time Code). Please set up two-factor authentication to continue logging into mCOP easily and securely.

Setup and management of 'Two-Factor Authentication'

Access to the portals mCOP (manager.mdex.de) and mCOP 2.0 (mcop.mdex.de) is via the same login credentials. Therefore, the setup of 'Two-Factor Authentication' can be done in either of the two portals and is then valid for both portals mCOP and mCOP 2.0.

After mandatory activation of multi-factor authentication (MFA), you will be prompted during login to first set up 'Two-Factor Authentication' with a one-time password (One-time code) as multi-factor authentication. Please follow the instructions in the displayed mCOP dialog.

Required Authenticator App

For setting up 'Two-Factor Authentication' (2FA), an authenticator app is required on your smartphone/tablet that generates a one-time password (TOTP), for example:

Management in mCOP (manager.mdex.de)

Management of 'Two-Factor Authentication' is done under Home → My Profile at One Time Password. To activate, enter your current mCOP login password, click 'Setup' and follow the instructions in the dialog according to this description.

If 'Two-Factor Authentication' is already activated, it can be deactivated here by entering the current mCOP login password, klick on 'Disable' and reconfigured it for another smartphone/tablet.

Management in mCOP 2.0 (mcop.mdex.de)

Management of 'Two-Factor Authentication' is done in the profile settings. To do this, click on your username (top left) on Security, then on Account Security → Signing in Management is under Two-Factor Authentication.

To set up 'Two-Factor Authentication', click on 'Set up Authenticator application'. Please follow the instructions in the displayed dialog for setup, see example:

If 'Two-Factor Authentication' is already activated, it can be removed by clicking Delete and reconfigured, for example for another smartphone/tablet.

FAQs

What is the purpose of multi-factor authentication?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) protects digital systems by requiring several independent proofs of identity. This increases security as attackers need, besides your username and password, additional authentication factors.

What multi-factor authentication method does mCOP use?

The common method 'Two-Factor Authentication' (2FA) is available as multi-factor authentication for mCOP. In addition to the usual login data (username and password), the entry of a generated one-time password (TOTP) is required. This is generated, for example, by an authenticator app on your previously registered smartphone.

How does login with 'Two-Factor Authentication' work?

After activating 'Two-Factor Authentication', during the login process you will be prompted, after entering your usual login data (username and password), to enter the one-time password (One-time code) generated by your authenticator app.

Is it still possible to log in to mCOP without 'Two-Factor Authentication'?

For security reasons, login to mCOP is only possible using ‘Two-Factor Authentication’. ‘Two-Factor Authentication’ cannot be deactivated.

If multiple users have previously shared a single mCOP user account, it is now necessary to create a separate user account for each user in the mCOP user management

If you lack permission in mCOP to create additional users, please contact Technical Support: Contact

What should be done when changing smartphones/tablets?

If you have already set up 'Two-Factor Authentication' with a one-time password using an app on your smartphone or tablet, first delete this activation in the mCOP profile settings and activate it again with your new smartphone/tablet. See also Setup and management of 'Two-Factor Authentication'.

What should be done if the smartphone/tablet is lost or defective?

If the smartphone/tablet activated for 'Two-Factor Authentication' with a one-time password is defective or lost, please contact Technical Support: Contact.

  • Technical Support can reset the configured 'Two-Factor Authentication'.
  • Subsequently, you will be prompted at the next login in mCOP to activate 'Two-Factor Authentication' for another smartphone according to How is 'Two-Factor Authentication' set up in mCOP?.
