Teltonika router: The login password cannot be changed afterwards

Problem

After a firmware upgrade of the Teltonika router, e.g. to version R_00.07.24.3 (including the “Keep settings” option to retain the router configuration), it is no longer possible to change the router login password afterwards.

Even if an existing backup file is restored to a router, the password stored in the backup file may not be applied; instead, the password configured on the target router remains unchanged.

Cause & workaround

When upgrading from an older firmware version to version R_00.07.24.3, a conversion error may occur in the password management system. This causes an error message to be displayed when attempting to change the password afterwards.

Until a new firmware version is available, the router login password can be changed using the following workaround:

In the “Password Policy” tab, activate the 'Password expiration' option (on), enter, for example, 13 under 'Expires in' and apply the settings by selecting Save & Apply.

The router password can now be changed as usual. The 'Password expiration' function can then be deactivated (off) again if it is not required.

(With the 'Password expiration' option enabled, a new password must be created as soon as the current password reaches its expiry date. The password expiry period can be set to between 13 and 365 days under 'Expires in'.)
