This article explains how to manually activate an eSIM on your mobile Apple device (iPhone/iPad) without a QR code.
Please note that
- an active internet connection (via Wi-Fi) is required to activate the profile.
-
the SIM must first be activated in SIMPro; please refer to How to activate a SIM card.
(Otherwise, connection issues may occur if the eSIM profile is activated on the device with an inactive SIM.)
Step-by-step guide
- Go to Settings on your mobile device.
- Tap on 'Mobile Service' (called 'Mobile Data' on some devices).
-
Select 'Add eSIM' (called 'Add Mobile Plan' on some devices).
-
In the next step, select the option 'Use QR Code'.
-
Instead of scanning the QR code, tap on 'Enter Details Manually' at the bottom.
-
You are now in the corresponding input mask where you must enter the SM-DP+ address and the activation code.
Other manufacturers typically use a "single-line format," which consists of the SM-DP+ address and activation code, structured as follows: LPA:1$SM-DP+address$activation code
However, when manually setting up (activating) an eSIM on an iPhone or iPad, the format specified by Apple must be observed, which requires entry over two lines.
Enter SM-DP+ address
Please enter the portion of the activation code between the first and second dollar signs (excluding the dollar signs).Enter activation code
Please enter the portion following the second dollar sign.
Example:Provided activation code LPA:1$RSP-XXXX.XXXXXX.XX$XXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX SM-DP+ Address RSP-XXXX.XXXXXX.XX Activation code XXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX Tap on 'Next'.

Your device will now connect to the network. This may take a few minutes. Afterwards, your eSIM will be active.
If your device does not connect to a network, it may be due to a firmware setting on Apple devices. Please follow these instructions: Resolving connection issues when activating eSIM Profiles on Apple devices (APN Configuration)
