Download configuration file (.ovpn)

The required configuration file (.ovpn) to set up the OpenVPN client as mdex control station device can be downloaded directly in the 'mCOP 2.0' portal. The OpenVPN device login credtials (Username and Password) are included in the configuration file (.ovpn), see here.

  1. Log in to the mCOP 2.0 portal.
    • The configuration file (.ovpn) is not available on the original mCOP portal!
    • Log in to the mCOP 2.0 portal using the same credentials as for the mCOP portal.
  2. Open the desired device 'control centre tunnel'.
    • If many SIM cards are already present and the device 'control centre tunnel' is not immediately visible, search under Devices -> Search devices. Enter e.g. 'openvpn' or directly the device (e.g. 'i0123456') in the filter at the top right to quickly find the 'mdex control centre tunnel'.
    • Alternatively, use the "Advanced search settings" and restrict the product group from 'All product groups' to 'Control station'. Now, when performing the search (click on the 'magnifying glass' at the top right), only the devices 'mdex control station device' will be displayed.
  3. Click on the desired 'control station device'. At the top left of the tile under Account data, the configuration file (.ovpn) is available for download:

Please note that the connection using the configuration file (.ovpn) with pre-set login credentials (username & password) is allowed for only one client at a time. If multiple clients connect simultaneously with the same credentials, the connection will be regularly interrupted for all!

Description of the configuration files (.ovpn)

The access data (username and password) for the 'mdex control station device' are already stored in the corresponding configuration file (.ovpn). Therefore, no additional input of the username and password is required when establishing the OpenVPN connection.

  • mdex Control station (recommended)
This configuration file should preferably be used!
The OpenVPN connection is primarily established over UDP port 1194. If the connection is not successful within 30 seconds, connections over UDP port 9300, TCP port 443, TCP port 1194 and TCP port 5228 will then be attempted in this order.

  • mdex Control station (TCP 443)
Only for special cases when a firewall blocks the connection!
The OpenVPN connection is established exclusively via TCP port 443.
This configuration file should only be used if UDP port 1194 is blocked by a firewall in the network. TCP port 443 is usually open in the network, which allows firewall restrictions to be bypassed and an OpenVPN connection to be established. In addition, a TCP connection is not subject to UDP session monitoring by the firewall, which is particularly advantageous if the UDP-1194 OpenVPN connection is sporadically interrupted by the firewall during inactivity.

Setting up the OpenVPN client

Please note that the connection using the configuration file (.ovpn) with pre-set login credentials (username & password) is allowed for only one client at a time. If multiple clients connect simultaneously with the same credentials, the connection will be regularly interrupted for all!
