Description
This description serves to set up and use the 'OpenVPN GUI' as a VPN client for use as a 'DevicePro SIM Tunnel' and 'mdex Control station device'.
The 'OpenVPN Connect' client software works on all operating systems:
OpenVPN Connect for Windows
OpenVPN Connect for macOS
OpenVPN Connect for Linux
OpenVPN Connect for Android
OpenVPN Connect for iOS
It is possible to set up multiple OpenVPN connections to different providers or servers. However, it is important to note that only one connection can be used at a time. This means that the user must decide which provider or server they wish to connect to at that moment. This limitation ensures that there are no conflicts between the different connections and that the stability and security of the internet connection are maintained.
Setting up 'OpenVPN Connect'
The following screenshots may vary depending on the operating system and app version.
- Download the Configuration File (.ovpn):
- Download .ovpn for 'DevicePro SIM-Tunnel' (for SIMPro/DevicePro users)
- Download .ovpn for 'mdex Control station device' (for mdex mCOP users)
- Download and install the 'OpenVPN Connect' client software from https://openvpn.net/client/ for the desired operating system:
OpenVPN Connect for Windows
OpenVPN Connect for macOS
OpenVPN Connect for Linux
OpenVPN Connect for Android
OpenVPN Connect for iOS
-
Start 'OpenVPN Connect' and select and import the previously downloaded configuration file (.ovpn) using 'UPLOAD FILE' and 'Browse'.
Info for iOS (iPhone / iPad):
Tap on the *.ovpn file, select the share icon, and then choose the 'OpenVPN Connect' app.
-
Click on 'Connect' to establish the connection and save the profile .
- The connection can be disconnected using the toggle switch.
- The general setup is now complete.
Establishing a connection
Please note that the connection using the configuration file (.ovpn) with pre-set login credentials (username & password) is allowed for only one client at a time. If multiple clients connect simultaneously with the same credentials, the connection will be regularly interrupted for all!
- Start 'OpenVPN Connect' and establish the connection using the toggle switch.
- Once the OpenVPN connection is established, the IP addresses or hostnames of your SIM cards will be accessible.
- The connection can be disconnected using the toggle switch.
Notes on connection issues
Is the connection taking longer than 30 seconds?
If the connection takes longer than 30 seconds, the UDP port 1194 may be blocked by a firewall in the network. In this case, we recommend testing the connection using the available configuration file (.ovpn) 'TCP-443'.
Alternatively, it is possible to manually adjust the current configuration file (.ovpn) by disabling the UDP servers with a semicolon (;). This will establish the connection directly with the next activated server over TCP port 443, then over TCP port 1194, see example for 'SIM Tunnel':
;remote sim-tunnel.devicepro.wl.services 1194 udp remote sim-tunnel.devicepro.wl.services 443 tcp remote sim-tunnel.devicepro.wl.services 1194 tcp
Frequent disconnection?
The configuration file (.ovpn) of a User can be used in multiple clients, however, the connection may only be established by one client at a time. In the event that multiple clients with identical user credentials attempt to connect simultaneously, the connection is likely to be frequently disrupted for all clients involved.
